CT&D #48. Illustrator Tools and Features

Adobe Illustrator gives users access to freehand drawing tools. How many selection tools are there and what are their names?

In Illustrator, freehand tools include the pencil and paintbrush. Technically, I would also consider the pen tool as well since you can manipulate the shape of its path unlike the shape tool which only can change in size (and not composition).

Although the pen tool is usually used to produce areas of an image for precision, there is certainly an element of freehand drawing in regards to asymmetrical shapes since they do not involve measuring or accuracy. Otherwise, the selection tools one can use in Illustrator are the normal selection, direct or group selections (usually occupying the same icon), magic wand and lasso tools, all usually located on the top of the program’s righthand toolbar panel.
