Why perform peer reviews? Does the peer review process have real world/professional connections? How, why, why not?
A peer review in my opinion allows us (as both the writer and the reader) to interpret and understand various strengths and weaknesses a paper may have. As a writer, looking at someone else’s paper may give insight on how to improve their diction or grammar based on your own strengths or the other way around. As a reader, we must ask if the subject flows or does it at least stay on topic and deliver every neccesary detail?
Peer reviews have real world connections for a number of reasons. On one hand, the nature of the activity encourages possible friendship as the people involved get to know one another. And on the other hand, the critiquing and reviewing of another person’s work parallels some workplaces which allow for employees to look after each other’s job progress.
