What are the main disadvantages of a raster based image?
• Raster images are difficult to scale neatly; increasing the size of a such images will lead to distortion and will cause them to look “grainy.”
• Raster images contain pixels which make up an image; since pixels are finite and are subjected to becoming enlarged (which contributes to making a photo blurry), video editing software tools are needed to fill in extra pixels to lessen the blurriness.
• Raster graphic files are large and may be slower to edit due to the large number of pixels being handled (with respect to size of an image).
• Raster images are preferably not the best to use for banners and ad graphics where vector graphics are more appropriate due to better scaling and smoother edges since pixels aren’t used.
