What are the main disadvantages of a raster based image?
The main disadvantages of raster based images are as follows:
• The difficulty in scaling such an image as neatly as possible; increasing the size of a raster image can distort it and cause it to look “grainy.”
• Raster images contain pixels which make up an image; since pixels are finite and are subjected to becoming enlarged (which contribute to making a photo blurry), video editing software tools are needed to fill in extra pixels to lessen the blurriness.
• Raster graphic files are large and may be slower to edit due to the large number of pixels being handled (with respect to size of the image).
• Raster images are preferably not the best to use for banner/ad graphics where vector graphics are more appropriate due to better scaling and smoother edges as a result of no pixels being utilized.
